Customers that just don't want to talk

mikep asked Category: Main

I struggle with customers who don't seem interested in talking at all. Its hard to build a relationship. Any ideas? How can I get people to talk?

Try to see ahead of approaching the customer if you have something in common, if they have kids with them, then say hi to the children, and if you have kids maybe asked how old, the name, make a comment, something that puts the customer at ease instead of drilling the customer with questions on what she came to buy. Building a rapport requires a bit of finesse and observation on your part, but once you find something in common with the customer, they relax and will open up as to the reason for the visit to your store, sometimes it is just to browse, but usually they have something in mind for either now or the near future, and if they feel comfortable talking to you and can earn a trust you are so much further ahead of the game. Hope that helps.

first be yourself, don't think about what you going to say, they are people just like you and I,welcome them as if I have known them forever, talk about the wheather, kids, anything to break the ice.. customer sense and feel you,you be surprise they are just as nervous as you are, they are about to make a major purchase, they need to know you are to person to make them feel they made the right choice,no one wants to feel after they leave your store and say wow what have I done.. when my customer leaves they are not only happy, but very satisfied, becaues they left my store with no regret!!!!

Refer to your online training in the module on the "just looking" customer.
